Art Heals Health | Health Heals Art is a symposium to celebrate the extraordinary work being done at the intersection of the arts and health care. From Theatre, to Visual Arts, Music and Dance, the Arts provide modalities for healing; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Art Heals Health | Health Heals Art is an annual, experiential one-day event that will bring together patients, practitioners and artists to create a community for exchange.
As a growing field in healthcare, arts-based healthcare programs face considerable challenges ranging from a lack of resources to the difficulty of connecting with others in the field. Our aim is to build bridges among the people who are pioneers in this work and create a forum so that ideas can be shared to advance the patient and provider experience.
Our three-year strategy is captured in our vision “From Conversation, to Collaboration to Innovation”. The end of the inaugural event will see the creation of dynamic partnership between an artist and clinician who will work together in the intervening year on a collaborative project. This project would create the cornerstone for the second year’s symposium, highlighting current collaborations in the field and actively creating linkages for future collaboration. These collaborations will then frame the work done in the third year – to drive for innovations in the field.
We are creating a participatory, experiential day where artists, health professionals, patients and policy makers will celebrate the substantial work being done today. The symposium will highlight the creative projects that have enriched the healthcare experience of so many patients and health care providers. The day will feature experiential activities, forums for discussions and exchange, key note speakers as well as opportunities to meet a diverse group of professionals from the Arts and Healthcare.
An Advisory Council (listed below) has been established to guide our efforts and assist in establishing the framework for the day. Through collaborating with this impressive team we have identified key areas of opportunity and challenge, and will structure a symposium that focuses on providing a collective voice, building a community and providing evidence based research to support the use of arts in healthcare.
We hope you see the incredible importance that Art Heals Health / Health Heals Art, and the expertise of the Advisory Council, will bring to the Arts and Healthcare community.
